Recap of the 2011 Revolver Golden Gods Awards

In a world where everytime you turn on the TV there are award shows with the same artists patting themselves on the back for (a lot of times completely uninspired) purely money making music, it's nice to see an awards show acknowledging hard rock and metal's greatest artists. This year's show was no exception. With performances including the original Alice Cooper band, Duff McKagan's Loaded, Sebastian Bach, Fozzy, and Avenged Sevenfold, it was, without a doubt, rock n' roll at its best. But in case you missed it (in which case, I feel very sorry for you) here's a recap of the 1 hour special from May 28th on VH1 Classic:

~ So first of all, this show had the best intro EVER! As the show starts, the one and only Dave Grohl walks on stage (to the delight of tons of screaming fans) and turns on a radio which starts blasting Justin Bieber's hit (*gag*) "Baby"....As the audience boos (very appropriate), Dave walks offstage looking very pleased with himself. However, to save us, (Thank GOD!) Chris Jericho walks on stage with a baseball bat. The crowd starts cheering "SMASH IT! SMASH IT! SMASH IT!" so...he smashed the stereo. Phew!

~ The opening performance was none other than Alice Cooper performing "School's Out". As always Alice's performance was amazing!

~ Former Skid Row frontman Sebastian Bach performed Skid Row's "Youth Gone Wild" with Asking Alexandria....Great performance! Baz sounded amazing as ever and the AA guys were awesome as well. The only thing that could've made that performance any better was if Nick Sterling had performed with them. And if for some reason you've been living under a rock and don't know who Nick Sterling is, he is Sebastian Bach's new 20 year old prodigy of a guitarist. Check him out! He's amazing.

~ Corey Taylor presented Motley Crue with the Ronnie James Dio Lifetime Achievement Award. Vince Neil thanked everyone and said that Dio "means so much to me".

~ And of course what would the Golden Gods be without Scott Ian and Brian Posehn presenting the Honorary Headbanger award to the one, the ONLY..... William Shatner? Yup....shocked me too.

~ Duff McKagan's Loaded performed "Electric Eye" with Corey Taylor and Sex Pistols' Steve Jones.

~ Avenged Sevenfold performed "Mouth for War" with Vinnie Paul. Awesome, really heavy performance.
